Filed under: Assignments on Tuesday, October 6th, 2009 by michael | No CommentsThe problem with meeting someone over the Internet and living in Venezuela is that they immediately Google Venezuela. And, lucky me, Lily found out that Caracas (or maybe the entire country) is the murder capital of the world. Now, I don’t believe that this is true. Venezuela might be in the Top 5, but I don’t think it’s achieved #1. At least, not yet.
So, to try and lighten up the situation, I made a video on my balcony (in Valencia, Venezuela, not Caracas!), and pretended to watch people being shot on the street below. Little need to mention that, to this day, Lily has not set foot on Venezuelan soil.
Enjoy!
Google Maps

It’s as if time stands still and the whispers of 500 hundred years ago still hover in the air, simply floating through time and the hot humid Caribbean air that mixes with cacao, mango, and honeysuckle.
RSS Feeds
Filed under: Assignments on Saturday, October 3rd, 2009 by michael | 1 CommentThe RSS feeds that most interest me are ForeignPolicy.com (a digest of the day’s best items) and TIME.com: Top Stories. I suppose that I enjoy these two sources/feeds because they keep me up-to-date like my Yahoo! home page but go deeper. For example, Brazil has just been awarded the 2016 Summer Olympics, but Foreign Policy offers an analysis “Why Brazil Won,” which helps to put today’s news into context. I like this. Time.com does similar things.
I did not have any problems incorporating these RSS Feeds into my site, but there was a display issue in IE8 which is easily solved clicking on the compatibility button next the address bar. Once this is clicked, the RSS information displayed correctly.
